New home for Brighton library

Hollingbury Library reopened at its new home at Old Boat Corner Community Centre at Carden Hill at 9am today.

The library will now open seven days each week, instead of the past 3 days, giving a broad choice of publications for all ages, plus computer and internet access. (See opening times below.)

The community centre, which is adjacent to Carden Park, includes its own café open seven days per week as well.

A unique launch event will be held at the library on Thursday 23 November from 10 to 11am to mark the reopening. The event will have a storytime session for younger kids, refreshments and an opportunity to find out more about the variety of library services out there.

Councillor Alan Robins, seat of the council’s financial development and culture committee, said : “We’re modernising our library support to make sure that we keep libraries open and keep them at the core of the community. Moving Hollingbury Library into the community centre means we are now able to provide neighborhood residents lengthy opening hours and the opportunity to use the library every day of the week”

Old Boat Corner Community Centre is the first of 2 new places for Hollingbury Library — a second library service are also available at Hollingbury and Patcham Children’s Centre at Carden Primary School in the new year, with a specific emphasis on novels and services to young children and families in the area.

The old Hollingbury library building, also in Carden Hill, was in need of repairs and closed last month.
