This Guy Couldn’t Find A Job Because Of His Service Dog…Until This Company Hired Them Both!

If there’s anyone who deserves gainful employment, it’s veterans. However, after returning from three post-9/11 deployments, Clay Luthy wasn’t having an easy time finding a job.

Luthy’s service to our country left his knees in poor condition, eventually requiring multiple surgeries. Unable to re-enlist in the Air Force, he retired and began searching for work as a civilian. Despite his sacrifices, many companies weren’t willing to hire him. The reason? His service dog, Charlotte.

When Luthy showed up for a job interview at a Lowe’s in Abilene, Texas, he wasn’t sure how the company would react to his situation. Would they be willing to accept an employee with a service dog?

Fortunately, the answer was a resounding yes! Lowe’s hired Luthy and Charlotte, and outfitted them both with classic red work vests. On December 4, the pair went viral on social media after a customer posted the picture below.

The store’s human resource manager, Jay Fellers, told The Dodo, “We didn’t realize he was having a difficult time finding a job. He applied here and went through a normal interview process, and brought Charlotte in as part of the interview. He told us about Charlotte, and how she supports him. He ended up being our top candidate.”

SoftBank lets Trump brag about creating jobs (he didnt) so that it can buy T-Mobile

Yes, Trump isstill talking about the same SoftBank fund that has nothing to do with him.

In a convolutedturn of self promotion, thePresident-elect just revisitedhis not-so-humblebrag from earlier this month, falsely takingcredit forSoftBanks Vision Fund, a joint $100 billion plan between SoftBank and Saudi Arabia to invest in emerging technologies. As announced in October, thefunds creators plan to seed it with $25 billion and $45 billion respectively over the next five years.

Given thatSilicon Valley isworld capital of tech innovation, a lot of that money was bound toland stateside regardless of Trumps claims to take credit after the fact. Nonetheless, Trump continues totout his election win forSoftBanks pre-existing planto create 50,000 U.S. jobs through its investments in Sprint, OneWeb and the Vision Fund.

I was just called by the head people at Sprint, and they are going to be bringing 5,000 jobs back to the United States, Trump told reporters. They have taken them from other countries. They are bringing them back to the United States and also OneWeb, a new company, is going to be hiring 3,000 people.

SoftBankand Sprint, by proxyappear to be happy to play along with Trumps creative PR flourishes, and with good reason.Coziness with the Trump administration could grease the wheels on a rumored acquisition of T-Mobile in a bid to combine the third and fourth largest carriers in the U.S.

Earlier in December, SoftBank CEO and Sprint Chairman Masayoshi Son explained his relationship with Trump, stating that he visited Trump Tower to celebrate his presidential job and commit because he will do a lot of deregulation.

SoftBanks interest in purchasing T-Mobile is well known. In a 2014 interview with Bloomberg, Son emphasized thathis decision to buy a majority stake in Sprint will only work if the company can scale considerablyand compete:

The U.S. market is pretty much a duopoly. I always felt that we were coming to the U.S. market after it was already basically game over. The top two duopolists have such a strong brand, strong networks, strong customer bases. [Still] this is the richest market in the world, the center of innovation for the Internet. Mobile service is migrating from voice-centric service to data-centric service. We may have the last opportunity. If we have any chance to build a meaningful competitor, our Internet background may help a little bit on that end. But we need scale.

Later in 2014, SoftBank was said to have abandoned its plans for a potential merger, discouraged by U.S. antitrust regulation. Thats where the Trump administration comes in. Sons interest in buying T-Mobile might have quieted down, but rumors suggest that it hasnot waned leading into late 2016.

The Trump administration means renewed hope for the deregulation that would make SoftBanks long game acquisition of T-Mobile possible. Known telecommunications deregulator Brandt Hershman bubbled up in rumors about FCC appointmentsand Trump transition team member Mark Jamison has even questioned the existence of the FCC altogether:

Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away. Telecommunications network providers and ISPs are rarely, if ever, monopolies. If there are instances where there are monopolies, it would seem overkill to have an entire federal agency dedicated to ex ante regulation of their services.

Letting Trump falsely claim credit forSoftBanks U.S. job creation seems like a small price to pay for a merger that could pave the way for the companys grand 300 year plan.

Erin Andrews Reveals She Now ‘Booby Traps’ All Of Her Hotel Rooms While Defense Claims The Peephole Videos Propelled Her Career

What a mess.

As we told you, Erin Andrews took the stand on Monday to testify in her $75 million lawsuit regarding her high-profile stalking case in 2008. For those who don’t know, Andrews was horrifically violated when a man named Michael David Barrett secretly videotaped her naked through a peeping tom hole after obtaining personal information from hotel employees.

The incident took place in the Nashville Marriott and Erin wants to hold the popular hotel chain accountable.

During her second day on the stand, Miz Andrews described the painstaking process she’s forced to complete every time she checks into a new hotel:

“As soon as I get to a hotel, no matter what city or state I’m in, I tell them I want to be moved from the room I was pre-booked in. I want to be moved. I also say if someone has asked to be next to me, they need to call me. I instantly cover the peep hole and then I do a check of the room. I look everywhere. I look for lights. I look for red lights. I look to see if there’s cameras. I check the bed. I check the alarm clock. I check the phone. I booby trap my room.”

When asked to describe what she meant by “booby trap,” she explained:

“I put a piece of paper down by the door so when I leave, if someone comes into the room I can tell. I just put something by it so that if somebody walks in, I can just tell.”

Video: Erin Is NOT Impressed With BF Jarret Stoll’s Drug Arrest!

Needless to say, the scary incident left her traumatized:

“I’ll always have to go get treatment for this. I’ll always need to talk to somebody about this because this will always be on the Internet. This will always be there. There will always be a reminder, every single day. The thing that really hits home for me and hurts me the worst is when girlshigh school, collegethey tweet me and say, ‘I want to be Erin Andrews except for the Marriott stalker thing’ and I can’t control that and that’s every day. That doesn’t get better.”

Ugh. Such a shame.

Meanwhile, the defense is arguing that the peephole videos were good for her career. Um excuse us, WHAT?

Making the argument that the leaked videos might’ve been part of some sort of publicity stunt, Marc Dedman pressed the Dancing With The Stars host about the actual effect on her career:

Ugh.

So what she still made money IN HER CAREER?? She was still extremely violated in a very personal way!

We’ll keep you updated as the case progresses.

Hundreds Of Students Left Their Rooms Late At Night To Do Something Breathtaking

After a long, competitive day at the All-State Chorus Competition in Louisville, Kentucky, 500 talented high school students lined the balconies of their 18-story hotel and teamed up for a magical performance.

That’s when hundreds of beautiful voices started singing the national anthem in stunning unison. It’s a tradition that’s been going on for a few years now, and it’s one that never fails to give listeners goosebumps.

Talk about great acoustics, am I right? Paired with immense talent, this was a recipe for success that led to a seriously impressive payoff.

The Extensive Storage Rooms Of The Smithsonian National Museum

To say the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. is large is, to put it lightly, an understatement. The museum, which does not charge a fee for admission, is housed in a building with a total area of 1,320,000 square feet! If that whopping figure puts you off, don’t be intimidated; the space accessible by the public is a comparatively minuscule 350,000 square feet.

So what occupies the remaining approximately 1,000,000 square feet of space? Obviously, there are offices and research spaces, but a good portion of the off-limits area is devoted to storing the Smithsonian museums incredibly extensive collection of artifacts and specimens. Putting an exact number to a collection as large as this one is tricky, but the museum has said that they have accumulated approximately 127 million specimens in the 106 years they have been in existence.

While these items aren’t on view for the general public, there is a way to peek behind the scenes, thanks to one man. Roy “Chip” Clark has spent the last 17 years as the museum’s chief photographer. His job is to document the items in storage and the employees who are responsible for preserving them and keeping them organized. So, without further ado, feast your eyes on all the wonders you can’t see when you visit the Smithsonian’s Natural History Museum.

The entomological collection is the second-largest in the world. It might not take the top spot, but it’s still pretty impressive, boasting 35 million specimens from 300,000 species. That covers about 60% of the insect families in the world.

As for mammals, they’re represented in the store rooms; this specific collection includes nearly 590,000 animals.

Not to be left out, underwater mammals are also hiding in the backrooms. Hundreds of whale skulls and other preserved bones are held in a whale-only warehouse.

In the depths of the vertebrate zoology department resides the third largest bird collection in the world, numbering more than 640,000 specimens.

If you head over to the invertebrate zoology department, you can find more than 35 million items stored over the span of 15 linear miles.

Once you leave the animal section, you can delve into the museum’s collection of minerals and gems, which total about 360,000. Many of these incredible rocks are sent around the world each year, on loan to scientists completing research.

Back to animals, you can find the fish. This collection actually predates the opening of the museum, as it was started in the mid-1800s.

It’s not just animal, mineral, and gem specimens held in storage, either; human anthropological artifacts also have a place.

In fact, the anthropology department has a whole lot of places to spread out artifacts of human life.

Plants can be found in this maze of storerooms, as well. Like the museum’s collection of fish, the herbarium began to take form before the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History was opened. Today, there are over 1.2 million kinds of plant life represented, all of which can be accessed through an online archive.

The museum’s paleobiology collection covers 2.5 billion years of life on Earth with 40 million fossils, including 1,500 different dinosaurs.

So, are you itching to head to the museum yet? Don’t just stop at natural history! The Smithsonian Institution has 18 other museums and a zoo open to curious and inquisitive people.

Artist Installs Miniature Rooms Into Abandoned Manholes in Italy

Artist Biancoshock recently retrofitted a series of abandoned manholes in the Italian cities of Lodi and Milan. The artist turned the abandoned spaces into miniature versions of a kitchen, bathroom and living room.

Biancoshock says the project’s goal was to raise awareness for disenfranchised people in places like Bucharest where ‘more than 600 people live underground in the sewers’. He cited this article for more information on the issue and wanted to use his art to speak about people living in extreme conditions.

Why The Most Creative People Have The Messiest Rooms

People often believe the types of spaces we surround ourselves with translates to the types of people we are; a clean space makes for a smart person, and a messy space makes for a lazy one.

But, research has shown the messier your room is, the more creative you are.

Some of the greatest inventors, filmmakers, writers and musicians are credited with having messy spaces.

Creativity thrives in messy environments because these types of rooms allow the creators to draw connections to things that would have never been connected before. Maybe the note on your desk written three months ago from a loved one inspires you for your next poem. Maybe the dirty shirt on the back of your chair inspires you to do your laundry!

So, next time your parents tell you to clean your room, respond with the fact that creative masterminds, like Mark Twain, Salvador Daland Albert Einstein, never cleaned their rooms, and they’re considered geniuses. Don’t they wanttheir kids to be geniuses?

Do you think Mozart had time to match his socks? No! He was working day in and day out on his masterpiece.

Check out this new interactive video to see which inspiring people also never made their beds.

Airplanes Are Hiding Secret Rooms

Airplanes are a feat of modern engineering. They come equipped with high-tech computers, enough seats to accommodate a small army, and enough peanuts to satisfy the hunger of a single person. As much fun as it is to complain about the cramped seats and annoying passengers on airplanes, you have to admit they’re pretty cool. Granted, I would never want to spend more than a few hours on one, which is why working as a flight attendant seems like one of the most difficult jobs in the world.

Imagine spending your entire work week flying all around the world. One morning you’re in the United States, the next day you’re in China, and, after that, who knows? Surely this lifestyle must get exhausting after a while, so where do flight attendants go to relax? Most office jobs have a break room where employees can get away from their desk, order something from a vending machine, and unwind. This probably isn’t news, but airplanes are notoriously small. There’s hardly enough extra space to store a piece of carry-on luggage, much less an entire room where flight attendants can go on break.

As it turns out, many commercial aircraft come equipped with hidden rooms that are reserved exclusively for flight attendants and pilots. While they may not be the roomiest accommodations, they’re certainly a step up from a seat in coach. Check out the images below for a sneak peek at the parts of the plane passengers are never allowed to go.

Going to work at 39,000 feet might sound glamorous at first, but it gets old pretty fast. Flight attendants need a break just like everyone else, and it’s tough to relax in the main cabin.

roydenc

When they aren’t conducting the safety demonstrations or handing out peanuts, have you ever wondered where the flight attendants go?

zvezy

You may have seen a sign like this one on your last flight. But where could they even fit an entire rest area for the crew?

David Parker Brown

Believe it or not, right above our heads!

Boeing

Here’s an example of what the crew rest area might look like on a Boeing 777. Sure, it’s small, but you can’t put a price on having some space to yourself after hours on a crowded flight.

Boeing

On the Airbus A350, the crew’s area is a little more noticeable. Situated in the back of the plane, it hangs down above some of the passengers’ heads.

Australian Business Traveller

Sometimes, pilots are even given their own private quarters. Here, they get to enjoy a bunk, reclining chair, and a sink for freshening up.

Boeing

Don’t worry, the flight attendants aren’t stealing any space that could be used to make you more comfortable. As you can see, their rest areas aren’t exactly the height of luxury.

Airline Updates

The beds are six feet long and two-and-a-half feet wide. Really makes you appreciate your break room, doesn’t it?

Australian Business Traveller

There’s no such thing as privacy for flight attendants.

Australian Business Traveller

Flight attendants access these hidden rooms by using a ladder that drops down from the overhead compartments.

LifeBuzz

Sometimes, they use discreet staircases behind doors. These entrances have been hiding in plain sight!

Malcolm Muir

The Airbus A380 utilizes a secret hatch to access the crew rest area, which is situated below the cabin.

Australian Business Traveller

Down below, you’ll find rows of bunk beds that look like ones you’d find in an RV.

Australian Business Traveller

The bigger the plane and the longer the flight, the more the crew is required. On flights exceeding 12 hours in length, the entire crew has to be swapped out midway through, which means there could be up to 18 crew members on a single flight!

Australian Business Traveller

I would have never guessed that nine people could all sleep in such a small space.

Australian Business Traveller

Some of the bigger planes even come with nicer accommodations. Most of us probably wouldn’t mind spending the night here.

Juan Carlos Guerra

Unfortunately, we’re still stuck in coach …
