‘Black Widow’ Movie Gets Writer: Can It Be the First R-Rated Film of Your MCU? : Films : Enstarz

Eight years after making her first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Black Widow will finally be receiving her own standalone movie.

Marvel is moving forward with all the highly anticipated solo Black Widow  film starring Scarlett Johansson and already has a author on board for the project.

Jac Schaeffer To Pen The Script

According to numerous accounts, screenwriter Jac Schaeffer has been tapped to author the script for the upcoming project, which remains in the first stages of development.

Schaeffer’s credits include penning the script for the upcoming female-led Dirty Rotten Scoundrels movie Terrible Ladies, which stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Hathaway and Schaeffer will also be working together on the author’s Black List alien invasion humor script, The Shower.

Schaeffer has also written and directed that the 2009 sci-fi rom-com, TiMER,    recently published the script for the Disney short movie Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,  that performed screenings of Pixar’s Coco.

Standalone Black Widow Movie

Before, Johansson and Marvel Studios mind Kevin Feige are very outspoken about wanting to generate a solo movie based on the Marvel character.

Johansson first featured as the Russian spy-turned-superhero Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff, in 2010’s Iron Man 2 and has become a significant character in the MCU, having starred in six Marvel films, such as the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

The Black Widow  movie will be Marvel’s second female-led superhero flick, after Brie Larson-starrer Captain Marvel,  that’s slated for launch in 2019.

Will The Film Be R-Rated?

There’s been a great deal of speculation concerning if Marvel will be drifting into R-rated land anytime soon, especially after Sony’s Tom Hardy-led Venom  project along with also the Deadpool franchise.

If Marvel wants its own offering of R-rated films, a Royal Black Widow project are the perfect way to do it.

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s Black Widow comic book series has been a enormous hit with fans as it strikes a perfect balance between Romonaff’s spy missions and hints of flashbacks from her previous. Considering Marvel has explored the character’s “Red Room” story previously, a fresh approach into the narrative without being restricted by a PG-13 score would be appropriate way to begin doing it.

Marvel can also take inspiration from films including Atomic Blonde along with the forthcoming Jennifer Lawrence-starrer Red Sparrow. The Charlize Theron movie resonated with audiences and even though her personality, Lorraine Broughton, is different from Romanoff’s, “there surely is a similar kind of energy in terms of how they are informed onscreen.”

Fans will have to wait and see which direction Marvel takes with all the Black Widow  movie, and whether or not it ends up being R-rated. But, there a number of reasons why it may happen.
