Celebrations as Condos’ space protected

A huge area in Buckinghamshire has been protected forever.

The Open Spaces Society say they’re thrilled that the Grange Area Trust has enrolled Widmer Fields as a village green.

This usually means people have rights of diversion and that that open area, at Widmer and Hazlemere End in Buckinghamshire, is stored for ever here.

The Grange Area Trust has been around to rescue the land, which has been threatened with growth.

It bought the areas and Buckinghamshire County Council has confirmed the enrollment of the land as a village green.

In 2013 the Open Spaces Society’s nationwide Open Space Award was won by the Grange Area Trust for the work to save the fields.

Kate Ashbrook, general secretary of the Open Spaces Society, said:

“That is a significant moment in the background of Widmer Fields. Status secures this important site for the public for ever. Today it is safe in the development and can be enjoyed by folks, and controlled for recreation and community activities.

“In 42 acres, this is one of the most significant village greens in England. We emphasise that the Grange Area Trust, along with the activists who preceded the organisation’s formationwork to save this special place.

“The society encourages landowners voluntarily to enroll their open spaces as city or village greens, to shield them from growth and also to offer local people rights of diversion there.”
