Hong Kong Movie star Kara Hui named best actress at Golden Horse Awards

Hong Kong film star Kara Hui Ying-hung was called best leading actress in the Golden Horse Awards on Saturday night for her character in Taiwanese thriller The Beautiful, The Corrupt, along with The Gorgeous.

This was the first time 57, Hui, has won the coveted awardwinning, eight years after she had been named best supporting actor.

“I’m really becoming a little dizzy,” a teary Hui mentioned when receiving the award. “I arrived here more than a decade ago … along with also the very best supporting actor was announced very early that day, and I didn’t get it.

“My desire was that I could one day win the best leading actress award here.”

It turned out to be a good night for The Bold, The Corrupt, along with The Beautiful, that was also called best feature film. The 14-year-old Vicky Chen was named best supporting actress for her part in the film by Taiwanese director Yang Ya-che.

Place in Taiwan in the 1980s, it is about a family of two daughters and a mom gets entangled in a murder bombarded with nasty deals.

And Hui wasn’t the only Hongkonger celebrating victory in the service in Taipei.

Three Hong Kong youngsters, Shek Ka-chun, Wong Chun-long and Wong Tsz-ying, won best short film to get a narrative on the battles of minorities.

On point, Wong Tsz-ying stated: “Changing a man is tough. Transforming a society is difficult. Taiwan made expect is seen by us today. I would love to say ‘thank you’ on behalf of their minorities.”

Shek explained: “We’re students from Hong Kong. It felt surreal because we’ve always observed the Golden Horse awards ceremonies.”

Their movie, Losing Sight of a Longed Place, was the trio’s final-year university project. They will be among the first batch of graduates next month.

The animated documentary was reflection, frustration and all about the struggle of a Hong Kong rights activist, Adam Wan, who had been selected by 10 homosexual people interviewed by the trio.

Vivian Qu, from mainland China, was named best director for her film Angels Wear White, while mainland actor Tu Men won best leading actor for his part in Old Beast.

TheAmazing Buddha +, by Taiwanese director Huang Hsin-Yao, was the greatest winner, bagging five awards: best new director, best adapted screenplay, best cinematography, best original film tune and best original film score.
