Broward Health Medical Center physician discovers newborn in hospital trash can

An emergency medicine physician at Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Broward Health Medical Center discovered a newborn baby within a garbage can in a toilet in the center before this month, as stated by the .

Police said that the infant’s mum, Rubi Ramirez, 25, arrived in the hospital Oct. 5 mentioning abdominal pain. While waiting for the appointment, Ms. Ramirez’s mum said she discovered her infant bleeding in the bathroom and called hospital employees.

Judson N. Krosney, MD, that was supposed to treat Ms. Ramirez, told authorities he saw nurses congregate from the bathroom. He stated he requested Ms. Ramirez when she was pregnant and she informed him she was not. Dr. Krosney allegedly said he didn’t believe her, began hunting the restroom and discovered that the baby “at a plastic-lined garbage can, under a pile of bloodied paper towels,” the report says. The newborn was reportedly carried to term and has been breathing and alive when Dr. Krosney discovered the kid.

In a number of interviews with authorities, Ms. Ramirez originally claimed she didn’t know she was pregnant and that the baby “fell” to the garbage can. She told authorities she called for help and alerted hospital personnel to the infant’s location, according to the report.

Ms. Ramirez later confessed to authorities she understood she was pregnant prior to arriving in the hospital and admitted she placed the child in the garbage can.

Police detained Ms. Ramirez Oct. 5 charged her abuse of a child without great bodily injury and desertion of a child. A judge awarded a $5,000 bond and arranged Ms. Ramirez to abstain from contacting the kid, ” the report says.

A lawyer on behalf of Ms. Ramirez allegedly filed a false apology in court on her behalf. Ms. Ramirez was held at a hospital because her arrest.
