BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) –

If you’re trying to find a new project or a better person–Alabama’s job market is searching for. The country hit a new record this month to the most individuals used.

“I’d say that the work market is extremely busy. There are a good deal of jobs out there in the greater Birmingham area. We are discovering that and there are a lot of jobs out there in Alabama as a whole,” said Eric Ellington, President of Custom Staffing Solutions in Birmingham.

He said there is a issue though–getting all those jobs filled. The staff in Custom Staffing Solutions is busy just trying to meet with the need.

“We have jobs that range anywhere from $2 per hour to $38 per hour,” said Ellington.

Tuesday they put about fifty individuals in temporary positions   plus they still have nearly 40 more that want to filled.

“70 to 75 percent   of those jobs are industrial, which will pay anywhere from $2 dollars per hour to $15 an hour and that is where we now have a greater difficulty.”

Ellington stated there are a number of factors which make it difficult. He said drugs are just one.

“Plenty of people can’t pass our medication screenings, which will be mandatory for all of us. We do have problems in attracting qualified candidates. A lot of individuals want the occupation but they may not be qualified for the job.”

Transport is another factor.

“Plenty of times we may have five openings out there for third shift, but the bus isn’t running during third move. So those individuals don’t have the chance to take the occupation,” continued Ellington.

In Jefferson County the unemployment rate is currently at 3.2 percent–lower than both the state and national average.

“That is traditionally low for the previous 6 to 2 years so we don’t have the pure quantity of individuals but we do strike many, many  individuals. They need to function and we’re quite aggressively going after them to place them in great circumstances.”

This comes with a job fair scheduled for Wednesday, January 24, 2018 in Princeton Hospital in the Environmental Services Department.   It’s scheduled from 9 am to 3 pm.
