Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has barred its players from performing push-ups in the field to celebrate achievements following objection in a ruling party lawmaker.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Rana Afzal Khan raised the matter during meeting of Senate Standing Committee on Sports.

The Express Tribune mentioned that Khan explained the players should perform “nafl prayers or do sajdas” as opposed to push-ups.

He explained cricket is “a gentleman’s game” and the action of performing push-ups does not reflect exactly the calibre of this game.

“Push-up celebration promotes a negative image of Pakistan and has to be revisited,” Khan explained.

PCB official Najam Sethi promised the lawmaker as well as the committee that players no more will observe victories with push-ups.

“It simply occurred during the England tour and won’t happen,” Sethi said.
