AB de Villiers has backed Cricket South Africa’s new T20 league, that can be set to launch in the 2017-18 summer, stating that it will “motivate children to stick around” and to “play for the nation”.

“I am quite excited about it. It’s going to be good. Lots of credit to Cricket South Africa for coming up with This. It’s essential for all our cricket. It will motivate a few of the children to stick about, to combat it through and to perform South Africa,” de Villiers was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“The domestic tournament will do amazing things for our cricket and I also think it can definitely come up [sic] an IPL when it comes to entertainment and quality of cricket. With a few of the names I have learned who are interested in coming over, it’s going to be excellent,” he added. ()

The championship has been seen as CSA’s attempt to entice high-profile international players in a model much like that of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Big Bash League (BBL) and also the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

The complete details of the planned tournament were yet to be revealed but it was considered that the CSA has identified a window in November-December for the competition.
