Cannes Film Festival Adds Roman Polanski, Ruben Ostlund Movies

The Cannes Film Festival has included Roman Polanski’s “Based on a True Story” (D’Apres Une Histoire Vraie) to the official choice — playing out of competition — along with many other new names.

Eva Green, Emmanuelle Seigner and Vincent Perez celebrity in Polanski’s French-language film about a writer and her dominating admirer. Olivier Assayas co-wrote the screenplay with Polanski, according to a novel by Delphine de Vigan. Sony Pictures Classics is currently U.S. distributor; Lionsgate sells global rights.

“Force Majeure” manager Ruben Ostlund’s artwork universe satire “The Square,” starring Elizabeth Moss along with Dominic West, will perform in contest. Sales are handled with Coproduction Office.

Un Certain Regard has included screenings of all Santiago Mitre’s “La Cordillera” along with Li Ruijun’s “Walking Past the Future.”

New unique screenings will include Barbet Schroeder’s brand new documentary “Le Venerable W.,” the last in his “trilogy of evil” series, also Eric Caravaca’s “Carre 35.”

Longtime French director  Andre Techine will be honored with a  tribute and screening of his newest film “Nos annees folles,” while Tony Gatlif’s “Djam” will display on the shore with a concert event.

The festival also has added a children’s screening of “Zombillenium.”
