Following the arrest of Malayalam celebrity Dileep in connection with the abduction and molestation of a favorite actress in February the job in progress on two of the films has come to a sudden end, say market sources.

The launch of his film ‘Ramleela’, which has been slated for this month, seems to have been postponed and today become uncertain, sources say.

“Ramleela” is Dileep’s large budget film produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam, whose Mohanlal-starrer “Pulimurugan” became the first Malayalam film to cross the Rs 100-crore mark.

“Kammara Sambhavam”, whose 80 per cent shooting was finished, is another film that could now be delayed, say sources.

The shooting at “Professor Dinkan” has only begun and with Dileep now in a legal tangle, people behind this venture also might need to suffer losses.

That is not all. People who borrow video CDs of films from video shops have also dumped his films.

“I was in a video shop yesterday and when the owner explained that Dileep’s most up-to-date film ‘Georgechettans Poorem’ CDs can be found, I felt I should not see it took yet another CD instead. The shop owner explained that his many customers today refuse to rent out a Dileep film,” a school teacher, who didn’t wish to be identified, told IANS.

A couple of TV stations were slated to air Dileep’s films, but are known to have transformed these in the last moment after his arrest because of fear of dropping the stations’ ratings.

Dileep, that has acted in more than 130 films, has been the third most popular celebrity from the Malayalam film industry after Mammootty and Mohanlal, but as manufacturer of films he stood in the number one position and possesses a series of multiplexes.

He has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days since Monday night.
